Abstract

Satyajit Ray is widely regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers in world cinema. His films are celebrated for their realism, humanism, and visual simplicity. Unlike mainstream commercial cinema, Ray developed a cinematic language rooted in observation, everyday life, and emotional authenticity. This research paper examines Ray’s contribution to cinematic realism through his visual storytelling techniques, cinematography, and portrayal of human experiences. By analyzing selected films, the study explores how Ray employed composition, natural environments, and character observation to create a unique cinematic style that continues to influence filmmakers across the world. Ray’s cinema combined realism with deep humanistic concerns, establishing a distinctive place for Indian cinema in global film history. (Bazin, 1967; Ray, 1976)
